SPT1 Slide-On Vampire Plugs

SPT1 slide-on vampire plugs let you build your own custom extension cords: cut SPT1 zipcord wire to the exact length your run needs, slide a plug onto each end, and the piercing pins make the connection — no stripping, no soldering.

The line includes male plugs, female plugs, female inline pass-through plugs, and splicers, in green and white, sold in packs. These plugs fit SPT1 wire only — SPT2 wire has thicker insulation and needs SPT2 plugs. Every product here is backed by our Reindeer Proof™ Warranty.

How to Use SPT1 Vampire Plugs

Vampire plugs solve the extension cord problem every installer knows: store-bought cords are never the right length. With a spool of SPT1 zipcord and a bag of these plugs, you cut wire to the exact distance and build the cord yourself in seconds per connection — the plug's pins pierce the insulation and contact the conductors when you snap it shut.

Placement matters: male plugs go at the start of a run (the end that reaches power), plain female plugs go at the end of a run, and female inline pass-through plugs can be installed anywhere along the line to add a mid-run outlet — useful for feeding a wreath or a tree partway down a roofline.

Always match the plug family to the wire: SPT1 plugs are sized for SPT1 insulation. If you are running SPT2 wire, use SPT2 plugs — the two are not interchangeable. Every product here is backed by our Reindeer Proof™ Warranty.

SPT1 Vampire Plugs FAQ

Answers to common questions about SPT1 slide-on vampire plugs, including plug placement, SPT1 vs SPT2 compatibility, and building custom cords.

What are vampire plugs?

Slide-on plugs with piercing pins that bite through zipcord insulation to make the electrical connection — no stripping or tools. They let you build custom-length extension cords from SPT wire.

Where does each plug type go?

Male plugs go at the start of a run, at the power source. Plain female plugs go at the end of a run. Female inline pass-through plugs can be installed anywhere along the line to add a mid-run outlet.

Can I use SPT1 plugs on SPT2 wire?

No. SPT2 wire has thicker insulation, so the plug channels are sized differently. SPT1 plugs fit SPT1 wire; SPT2 plugs fit SPT2 wire.

How do I build a custom extension cord?

Cut SPT1 zipcord to the length you need, slide a male plug onto the power end and a female plug onto the far end, and snap each plug closed so the pins pierce the insulation. That's the whole job — you build the cord, cut to fit.

What colors do SPT1 plugs come in?

Green and white, so the plug can blend with the wire color of your run.
