4 Channel Chase Controller With Speed Control Dial - Christmas Light Installation Accessories

How a Chase Controller Works

Each channel on the controller is an outlet. Plug a light string into each channel — the controller switches entire strings on and off in sequence, and the pattern reads as motion across whatever those strings are wrapped around. Split a roofline into sections, wrap a tree in layers, or wire up yard art, and the effect brings it to life. Controllers pair perfectly with our C7/C9 stringers and ProCore® LED bulbs.

What Customers Say

  • ★★★★★

We use this unit with 4 green rope lights to resemble grass coming out of a zero turn mower with Santa driving it. It works great

  • ★★★★★

Used it to bring some depth to my display. What is normally a static steady on display is now animated and able to be seen from blocks away. Cheap enough to buy several and use them all around the yard yet easy enough to bring the whole display to life.

This gives great results in a small, easy to use product. Adds that motion that every display needs a little of. You cannot go wrong with this.

Why Add a Chase Controller

The cheapest upgrade a light display can get is motion.

  • Motion Draws the Eye

A static display blends in. Chasing, bouncing, and building light patterns add the movement that makes people slow down and look.

  • Works With Your Existing Lights

Channels are plug-in outlets — no rewiring. Dial controllers pair with C7 and C9 stringers and handle 2 amps per channel.

  • Pick Your Effect

Classic chase, back-and-forth bounce, accumulating build-up, single-channel flasher, 8-pattern multifunction, or the fully programmable GFade 8.

  • Set the Pace With a Dial

Dial controllers have a front-panel speed control — turn it from a slow, dramatic sweep to a fast, energetic flash.

  • Whole Strings, Zero Fuss

Controllers switch entire light strings per channel — plug in a string per output, and the sequence does the animating. No programming required on dial models.

  • Built for the Season

Heavy-duty construction throughout — and our dial controllers are backed by our Reindeer Proof™ Warranty.

Chase Controller Questions & Answers

What does a Christmas light chase controller do?

It switches entire light strings on and off in sequence. Each channel is an outlet — plug one string (or group of strings) into each channel, and the controller cycles them to create animated motion across your display. Controllers animate whole strings per channel, not individual bulbs.

What is the difference between chase, bounce, and build-up effects?

Chase turns on one channel at a time, sweeping continuously in one direction. Bounce sweeps forward through the channels and then reverses, creating a pendulum-like back-and-forth motion. Build-up turns channels on sequentially and leaves them on, accumulating until everything is lit — then resets and begins again.

How many channels do I need?

Each channel controls one string or group of strings, so more channels mean a longer, smoother animation. A 2-channel controller alternates two groups; 3 and 4 channels create a more fluid sweep across rooflines and trees; the 8-channel GFade 8 handles large, fully custom displays.

What lights work with these controllers?

Any light string that plugs into a standard outlet. Dial controllers are compatible with C7 and C9 Christmas light stringers and handle 2 amps per channel; the 4-channel 8-function model handles 1.25 amps per channel and is ideal for LED light strings.

Can I control the speed of the animation?

Yes — chase, bounce, build-up, and flasher models have a front-panel speed control dial that adjusts the pace from a slow sweep to a fast flash. The 4-channel 8-function model uses a push button to cycle through 8 pre-loaded patterns and remembers your selection after a power cycle.

What is the GFade 8?

The GFade 8 is a fully programmable 8-channel controller. It connects over WiFi and uses a web-based drag-and-drop timeline — no app to download — to build custom animations, run pre-loaded sequences, and schedule your show. It’s housed in a waterproof aluminum enclosure, and GFade Sync lets multiple units run together as one controller with expandable outputs.
