Teal Christmas Lights: How To Choose Bulbs, Strings, Palettes, And Nets

A white flocked Christmas tree wrapped in teal, cool white, and blue mini lights beside a large window with falling snow at night, with a teal-lit garland on a console

Teal is the color people stop and ask about. It sits between blue and green, so it reads as cool and wintry like blue but brighter and more playful, and it looks completely different from the warm white and classic multicolor on most streets. It works on a roofline, a flocked tree, a porch railing, or a hedge, and it pairs beautifully with cool white, blue, purple, and pink.

This guide covers which teal bulbs and lens styles to use where, the ColorCraft® palettes that already include teal, how to add motion and sparkle, and how to work out quantities before you order. To see every option in one place, start with our teal Christmas lights collection.

How Teal Reads At Night

Teal is a bright, saturated color, so it carries well from the street and holds its own next to white lights. A few planning points make the difference between a crisp teal display and a muddy one:

  • Let larger lenses handle the architecture. C9 and C7 retrofit bulbs give each point of teal more presence, so use them for rooflines, gutters, windows, and doorways.
  • Use mini lights for texture. Trees, railings, wreaths, and garland look best in teal mini light strings wrapped at an even spacing.
  • Choose your partner color on purpose. Teal with cool white (6400K) looks icy and modern. Teal with blue and purple looks deep and jewel-toned. Teal with pink looks retro and candy-bright. Pick one direction for the whole display.

Teal C9 And C7 Bulbs For Rooflines And Outlines

For rooflines, gutters, and ridgelines, use screw-in bulbs on a socket stringer. The C9 Teal Smooth ProCore® LED Christmas Light Bulbs give a solid, even point of teal that reads clearly from across the street. They use an E17 intermediate base, draw 0.84 watts per bulb, and have a nearly indestructible polycarbonate lens on a nickel-plated base that resists corrosion. They are dimmable, IP67 rated, sold in packs of 25, and backed by our 3-Season Reindeer Proof™ Warranty.

Want more sparkle up close? The C9 Teal Faceted ProCore® bulbs use the same base and wattage with a faceted lens that throws sharper points of light. For windows, doorways, porch railings, and trees viewed up close, step down to the C7 Teal Smooth ProCore® bulbs, which use an E12 candelabra base and draw 0.8 watts each.

Bulb Packs Or A Complete Set?

Bulb packs do not include a stringer. That lets you build runs to any length with a stringer from our C9 stringer collection or C7 stringer collection; C9 bulbs need a C9 stringer and C7 bulbs need a C7 stringer. If you only need a short run, look for teal in our C9 LED Christmas light sets and C7 LED Christmas light sets; each complete 25 foot set includes 25 bulbs and a 25-socket stringer. Our stringer buying guide walks through socket spacing and lengths.

Teal Mini Light Strings For Trees, Railings, And Wreaths

Mini light strings are the right tool for trees, shrubs, railings, columns, wreaths, and garland. Our teal strings come in several lens styles, all on 4 inch spacing with green wire:

  • 70 5mm Teal LED Christmas Lights: the wide-angle 5mm dome gives a bright, even glow. Each string has 23 feet of lit length, draws 4.8 watts, and up to 45 strings connect end to end.
  • 100 5mm Teal LED Christmas Lights: the same lens style with 33 feet of lit length per string at 9.6 watts, and up to 27 strings end to end. Fewer connections on big trees.
  • 70 C6 Teal LED Christmas Lights: the strawberry-shaped C6 lens has a larger lighted surface for a fuller, more traditional look. 23 feet of lit length, 4.8 watts, 45 strings end to end.
  • 70 G12 Teal LED Christmas Lights: a 12mm raspberry globe that gives a jeweled, faceted look on wreaths, garland, and indoor trees.

All of these strings are dimmable and built for indoor or outdoor use, with male and female plugs so you can connect runs end to end. Keep mini light strings on trees, shrubs, and railings; for rooflines, use C9 or C7 bulbs.

Teal Palettes: ColorCraft® Strings And Bulbs

If you want teal as part of a palette rather than a solid color, our ColorCraft® collection has teal palettes you will not find in a big box store aisle. Each of these 50 light 5mm strings uses 6 inch spacing for 24.5 feet of lit length, draws 4.8 watts, and connects up to 45 strings end to end:

Want a palette on the roofline too? The C9 ColorCraft® Bahamas Faceted ProCore® bulbs come 25 to a pack with 8 green, 8 blue, and 9 teal bulbs, so a Bahamas roofline and Bahamas mini lights on the trees tie together. For more on how these palettes are built, see our ColorCraft® buyer's guide.

Teal Net Lights And Icicle Lights

Teal also comes in two of our DreamSpark® slow fade palettes, where each light fades and morphs at its own pace for a calm, shimmering effect:

Adding Sparkle To Teal

Our SuperSpark® strobes are not made in teal. To add sparkle, layer a string like the 50 5mm Cool White SuperSpark® strobe lights over teal mini lights on a tree or hedge. Every light on a SuperSpark® string strobes rapidly and randomly, so it is a bold effect; one string per tree or hedge section is often plenty. Our strobe lights guide explains the options.

Three Teal Looks To Copy

  • Winter Ice: teal C9 bulbs on the roofline, ColorCraft® Arctic on the trees, and Arctic DreamSpark® nets on the shrubs.
  • Night Sky: teal faceted C9 bulbs on the roofline, Stardust mini lights wrapped on trunks, and Stardust icicle lights along a porch or balcony rail.
  • Retro Candy: teal C7 bulbs around the windows and front door, ColorCraft® Gingerbread or Cotton Candy on a flocked tree, and pink accents on wreaths.

For more ideas on combining colors, see our guide to Christmas light color combinations, and if you are leaning toward a deeper palette, our blue and purple buying guides pair naturally with this one.

How Many Teal Lights Do You Need?

Rooflines: with 12 inch socket spacing, your roofline footage equals your bulb count. A 75 foot roofline takes 75 bulbs, which is three packs of 25, plus 75 feet of matching stringer. Our roofline buying guide covers clips and power.

Railings and garland: measure the run and divide by the lit length. A 40 foot porch railing takes two 70 light 5mm strings (23 feet each) or two ColorCraft® strings (24.5 feet each).

Trees and shrubs: these depend on height, spread, and how tightly you wrap. Rudolph's Christmas Light Planner builds a shopping list for trees, trunks, bushes, rooflines, and more in a few minutes.
