The Easiest Holiday To Light
St. Patrick's Day asks for one thing: green. That makes it the simplest lighting holiday of the year and a great excuse to put the Christmas gear back to work in March. Green LED strings, a few gold accents, and an evening or two is all any of these seven projects needs.
1. A Green Walkway
Stake a strand of
5mm green LED lights along both sides of the front walk using
lawn stakes. Cut shamrocks from green poster board, punch a hole in each, and slide one over every third lens so the light glows through the paper. It reads as a shamrock path from the street.
2. Mason Jar Lanterns
Fill quart jars with a short length of green string light, coil the wire loosely so lenses sit at different heights, and line the jars along porch steps or a table. Run the cords behind the jars to one outlet. Frosted jars soften the light; clear jars sparkle.
3. A Green And Gold Mantel Garland
Weave a
ColorCraft® Shamrock string through a plain evergreen or eucalyptus garland. The Shamrock palette mixes green, frosted lime green, and gold on one string, so the gold accents happen on their own. Drape it over the mantel or along a bookshelf.
4. The Green Window
Outline a front window with
C7 green faceted bulbs on a stringer, clipped to the frame with adhesive clips. Window and doorway outlines are exactly what C7 is sized for, and a single green-framed window says "party here" without lighting the whole house.
5. Rainbow And Pot Of Gold
Bend a length of PVC or thick wire into an arch, stake it in a flower bed, and wrap it with a
ColorCraft® Rainbow string. At one foot of the arch, set a black cauldron or planter filled with a coil of
yellow/gold 5mm lights for the pot of gold.
6. Rope Light Trim
Green rope light along a bar top, porch rail, or the edge of a table gives a solid line of green with no individual lenses showing. Cut it to length and stick it down with clips or outdoor-rated tape.
7. The Green Roofline
Already have a C9 stringer on the roofline from the decorating season? Swap the warm white for
C9 green faceted bulbs and the whole house goes green for the week. Screw-in bulbs make the change a ten-minute job, and you swap back just as fast.
Keep It Simple
Put everything on a
photocell timer so it runs itself for the week. Protect outdoor plug connections with
weatherproof gaskets. Kids can own the jar lanterns and shamrock cut-outs; adults handle ladders and outlets.
