What's In This Collection

Heavy-duty outdoor extension cords. Christmas light timers in mechanical and digital formats. Weatherproof cord connectors and socket seals. SPT1 and SPT2 wire for custom runs. Slide-on vampire plugs and end caps for building custom socket wire lengths. Power strips and cube taps for multi-circuit setups. See Christmas light timers and slide-on vampire plugs for each category.

How to Choose

Start with your power plan: how many circuits are you running, what's the total wattage, and how far is each run from a power source? Extension cords must be rated for outdoor use and sized for the load — undersized cords cause voltage drop and overheating. Add timers to every circuit for energy efficiency and convenience. Use weatherproof connectors on all outdoor connections exposed to rain or snow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What gauge extension cord do I need for Christmas lights?

For short runs (under 25 feet), 16 AWG is typically adequate. For longer runs or high-wattage loads, use 14 AWG or 12 AWG. Always use cords rated for outdoor use. The thicker the cord, the lower the AWG number.

What is SPT wire and when do I need it?

SPT1 and SPT2 are the two grades of parallel zip cord used for building custom Christmas light socket wire and power cords. SPT2 is the heavier gauge and is preferred for outdoor use. You need SPT wire when building or extending custom socket wire runs.

What is a vampire plug?

A vampire plug (also called a slide-on or Gilbert plug) is a connector that slides onto the end of SPT wire and locks in place without tools — no stripping required. Used for adding plugs to custom cord lengths.

Do I need a timer for my Christmas lights?

Timers are highly recommended for any permanent installation. They prevent lights from running all night, reduce energy consumption, and eliminate the need to manually turn displays on and off each day.
